First night in the new house…

First night in the new house…

and we froze.. even despite the best efforts of our guardian angel – in the form of our local electrician, who came to our rescue at very short notice late in the evening after we managed to do something nasty to the fusebox when we plugged in our new heater. Part way through the night Lucas woke up and came bawling up to our room.  Uncharacteristically.. I let him sleep in with us.  It must be … Read entire article »

I just bought my dream stove…

I just bought my dream stove…

I’m sooo excited. It’s being shipped to the local depot. It’s a Westinghouse PSP632S. It has all the features I wanted: Stainless steel 60cm wide (I hate narrow ovens – I use big pots and they never fit!) Fan-forced A separate grill. Ceramic cooktop (hate cleaning cooktops) The only thing it doesn’t do is clean itself.. those were a bit out of our budget range for the moment.   I like gas burners, but with toddlers, probably not the safest. Can’t wait to … Read entire article »

Dragging out the Christmas Decorations…

Dragging out the Christmas Decorations…

Winter solstice and Yuletide are on their way.. and I’m looking forward to putting up some decorations to celebrate.  Except.. I think most of my decorations are too “Christmassy”.  We have a lovely but bare wire archway over our front gate.  Eventually I want to have a wisteria growing up over it, but in the meantime, man made would have to do.  Anyways… I checked ebay and found some wonderful snowflake lights that would look … Read entire article »

Garden Dreaming…

Garden Dreaming…

I’m starting to formulate some plans for the front yard.  I really want it to be low maintenance, but still have a cottage feel to it.  I thinking that using some of the plants that were there in our old house at Mirrabooka would be the way to go.  I didn’t kill those so I have some confidence that I know what to do with them. In the front yard, there are 3 main garden beds.. … Read entire article »

Now the hard work begins….

Now the hard work begins….

Well.. we’ve settled. Which means we can start to move in! Whilst being verrry excited, I’m also a bit daunted about how much work we have to do. I did a quick visit this-morning to get my head around what we need to do and to formulate some plans. The previous owners have left some junk around the place we need to get cleaned out. There is no hot water … Read entire article »

Photography Letter Art

Photography Letter Art

Last year I went to Handmade Canberra Upmarket and saw Letter Art Photos for the first time.  I fell in love with the idea, but unfortunately not the prices! Then and there I vowed to make one for each of my sons… and promptly forgot about the whole thing as soon as I got home. Since we’ve bought this old house, the idea filtered back into my brain and so I’ve been investigating ways of making … Read entire article »

10 ways to re-purpose an old door.

So, according to our building report, the front door is kaput.  So.. I’ve been cruising the internet to come up with ideas to reuse it.  It would be such a shame to just throw it out!
